Diablo 4 New Difficulty Tiers Explained - Hard, Torment and More

Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred is going to be the games first DLC, and from what we can tell, it's going to be stellar. 

With Blizzard ramping up the details pertaining to the DLC, there's a brand new difficulty system to run over.

Here's all of the difficulties explained.

Blizzard has now showcased some of the aspects of how the class is going to operate, and it's going to feature some incredible movement, alongside unique combat mechanics. 

With many players now amped to dive into the action and see what Spiritborn has to offer, you're going to want to understand how the new difficulty system works. 

The new levels of difficulty are as follows.

  • Normal - the easiest difficulty, suitable for new players.
    • Unlocked by default
  • Hard - an increased challenge "for experienced Diablo players."
    • Monster kills grant 75% more Experience
    • Monsters drop 75% more Gold
    • Unlocked by default
  • Expert : "for skilled Diablo IV players that have acquired several Legendary items"
    • Monster kills grant 125% more Experience
    • Monsters drop 125% more Gold
    • Unlocked by completing Diablo IV’s prologue
  • Penitent - the hardest standard difficulty. "For players that have mastered Diablo IV and have acquired several Legendary items that have been enhanced by Tempering."
    • Monster kills grant 175% more Experience
    • Monsters drop 175% more Gold
    • Unlocked by completing the original campaign.
  • Torment 1
    • Monster kills grant 300% more Gold and Experience
    • Ancestral quality items become available
    • Increased Legendary, Unique, and Mythic Unique items per Torment tier
    • -250 Armor and -25% All Resist
    • Unlocked by completing The Pit of the Artificer Tier 20 at Level 60
  • Torment 2
    • Monster kills grant 400% more Gold and Experience
    • Increased Legendary, Unique, and Mythic Unique items per Torment tier
    • -500 Armor and -50% All Resist
    • Unlocked by completing The Pit of the Artificer Tier 35 at Level 60
  • Torment 3
    • Monster kills grant 500% more Gold and Experience
    • Increased Legendary, Unique, and Mythic Unique items per Torment tier
    • -750 Armor and -75% All Resist
    • Unlocked by completing The Pit of the Artificer Tier 50 at Level 60
  • Torment 4
    • Monster kills grant 600% more Gold and Experience
    • Increased Legendary, Unique, and Mythic Unique items per Torment tier
    • -1000 Armor and -100% All Resist
    • Unlocked by completing The Pit of the Artificer Tier 65 at Level 60
