Elden Ring DLC Release Date News, Leaks, and Colosseum Mystery Explained

Elden Ring has sold more 13.4 million copies to date and continues to gather new fans with every day that passes. It’s been a near ever-present in the steam charts since its release in February and you’d certainly be hard pushed to find a better Game of the Year contender outside FromSoftware’s latest action RPG. But despite many fans diving back into the game over and over again (there is 6 endings after all), most of the community are desperate to see what the developer does with the game next, especially with regards to more post-launch content.

Will Elden Ring Have DLC?

At this point, nothing has been officially announced with both FromSoftware and Publisher Bandai Namco avoiding any concrete answers on the future of the game. That being said, FromSoftware does have a history of releasing DLC for their previous titles. Dark Souls 1-3, Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice all received hefty post-launch support and content updates.

There have also been hints in press releases, with one including a quote from Bandai Namco Entertainment President and CEO Yasuo Miyakawa which talks about “expanding the brand beyond the game itself”. Clearly Bandai Namco know they need to capitalise on a game as significant as Elden Ring, and you would imagine one of the easiest ways to do that would be via post launch content.

For now though, if you want to see some of her amazing work, just watch the YouTube video below, or on the link.
August 19, 2022 - Elden Ring Sales Figures revealed

Elden Ring has now shipped 16.6 million copies worldwide since the end of June, according to Bandai Namco’s most recent sales report (as reported by Gamebiz.jp).

July 4, 2022 - Bandai Namco will be at Gamescom 2022

Bandai Namco Entertainment has confirmed it will attend and participate in Gamescom 2022.

Gamescom 2022 will take place from August 23 to 28. Could we get some information on Elden Ring DLC? Hopefully!

We certainly wouldn’t put it past seeing an announcement during Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Live event in 2022, which takes place the evening before Gamescom gets underway.

June 24, 2022 - Miyazaki says From Software’s next game is ‘in the final stages of development’

Well, this is unexpected.

Whilst we’re all wondering when From Software will release DLC for Elden Ring, director Miyazaki has confirmed that the studio’s next game is nearing the end of development.

In a new interview this week with the Japanese site 4Gamer, Miyazaki was asked to clarify some previous comments he made in a 2018 interview. More specifically, Miyazaki stated that the team had ‘three and a half’ games in development.

“0.5 is Déraciné, 1.0 is Sekiro and the remaining 2.0 are unannounced titles.” Miyazaki said at the time. We now know that one of those games was Elden Ring, but what about the other?

4Gamer asked if the remaining game was still on the way, and Miyazki confirmed: “Yes, it is. We are in the final stages of development.”

Our suspicion is that this new game will be revealed towards the end of the year at The Game Awards, and hopefully we’ll learn more about the Elden Ring DLC well before that.

June 9, 2022 - Summer Games Fest Livestream

June 8, 2022 - Summer Game Fest Is Tomorrow

Don’t forget that the third Summer Game Fest takes place on June 9, and promises to showcase “what’s next in gaming with huge new game announcements, world premieres, special guests, and much more”.

It’s also worth noting that the show’s creator Geoff Keighley has let fans know that the show will be “primarily focused” on already announced games. It’s also worth noting that Elden Ring’s publisher Bandai Namco has been named as one of the partners for Summer Game Fest.

What are the chances we see an announcement for Elden Ring DLC? Fingers crossed!

When Is The Elden Ring DLC Release Date?

Given that both the publisher and developer have not officially announced any Elden Ring DLC at the time of writing it’s very difficult to give a firm release date for when we might see the game launch some DLC. However, when we look at FromSoftware’s past DLC outings it’s possible to give fans a rough release window which might hint at when we could see the game’s first DLC update.

Game Release Date First DLC Release Date Time Between
Dark Souls 22 September 2011 August 24, 2012 11 Months
Dark Souls 2 11 March 2014 July 22, 2014 3 Months
Dark Souls 3 24 March 2016 October 21, 2016 7 Months
Bloodborne 24 March 2015 November 22, 2015 8 Months
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice 21 March 2019 October 29, 2020 1 Year, 7 Months

As you can see from the table above, FromSoftware normally release DLC within a year of launching the game. Obviously, there’s no exact pattern, but likewise, we don’t think the publisher will want to wait over a year for DLC if they want to capitalise on the game’s incredible popularity in 2022. Let’s just hope it’s not another case of what we saw with Demon’s Souls, which received no post-launch DLC content.

We’ll be sure to update this page with more details as and when we can.

How Many DLC’s Will Elden Ring Have?

That’s a tricky question, since FromSoftware don’t normally have a set number of DLC drops for each game. The first Dark Souls game had 1 DLC release, whilst Dark Souls 2 & 3 both had 2 DLC releases for each game. Bloodborne, also had one DLC release, but then again, players are still finding new monsters and bosses through the games chalice dungeons years after release, so quite how much content they made for the game is anyone guess. Sekiro, received a modest free DLC update, but without being as substantial as what we’d seen with past FromSoftware games.

So it’s hard to say. We’d like to think that Bandai Namco would throw suitcases of money at FromSoftware to ensure the good times keep on rolling with more and more content, but truthfully it’s a complete guess as to how much the company will look to expand on the game. Our modest estimation is that we’ll see at least two DLC releases for the game, if not more.

Elden Ring DLC Speculation & Ideas

There’s no telling which direction any Elden Ring DLC could take players, but thankfully we have a few ideas…

Speculation Idea 1 – The Divine Towers Mystery Cloud

Some fans have noticed that the Elden Ring Divine Tower locations appear to converge on one central point on the Elden Ring map. Surprisingly, the Erdree isn’t at the centre of these Tower locations, but rather a mysterious clouded region which sits in the middle of an ocean.

Some players have suggested that this has to mean something and that we could see this unveiled as a new DLC location to explore, but for what purpose we just can’t say. Likewise, it would probably be relatively small (at least compared to the game as a whole) so what could be hiding here would certainly have to be worth the minimal exploration.

Speculation Idea 2 – Miquella’s Egg

Malenia, Blade of Miquella is a Boss in Elden Ring, but she’s also a twin, with a brother named Miquella.

The demigod brother is never seen properly in the game, but is mentioned on occasion, with Malenia describing him as “the most fearsome Empyrean of all”. Likewise, when we say he is never seen, you can actually see him, or at least, part of him.

The game’s lore speaks of Miquella being abducted by Mohg, Lord of Blood, another boss found in Elden Ring. In fact you can see Miquella encased in an egg-like cocoon (see below). The NPC Gideon Ofnir also explains in the game that Miquella is still alive, since you need to be in order to slumber, but he also suggests that “all will be well” if he continues to slumber. Quite what would happen if he were to wake up is anyone’s guess, but we bet it would make some pretty excellent DLC.

Idea 3 – Colosseum Arenas

Of course, both of the suggestions above focus on more story content for the game, but based on a few leaks, we could also see a new PvP or PvPvE area added to the game via the game’s mysterious colosseums.  You may have seen these areas from the outside dotted across the game and as far as fans can tell there’s three in total, in Leyndell, Limgrave, and Caelid.

Whilst there’s no official way to enter the buildings and explore them, some fans and modders have found a way inside. One particular modder by the name of Sekiro Dubi has also uncovered two hidden enemies and a new Site of Grace. The unfinished enemies in question as called “Gladiator Large” and “Old Lion of the Arena”, which as Dubi points out in his video below, certainly seems to make sense given that the game’s lore speaks of these locations being places where warriors would test themselves against beasts.

That’s everything you need to know about Elden Ring’s rumoured DLC, but stay tuned to Turtle Beach for more updates and leaks.
